The Galata Bridge is an Istanbul landmark that connects the newer parts of the city, including Karaköy and Beyoğlu, with the historic old parts of Eminönü and Sultanahmet. The bridge has been frequented by fishermen for over a decade, and boasts some of the city’s best fish vendors and views.

A variety of bridges have been built over Istanbul’s Golden Horn over the ages. The bridge that currently connects either side of the estuary is a steel bascule bridge constructed in 1994. This landmark has been frequented by the city’s fishermen ever since the Golden Horn was cleaned up a decade ago. They now come here to try to catch local favourites like cinekop (bluefish) and palamut (Atlantic bonito). Watching them work, and trying some of the freshest fish in the city, is a quintessential Istanbul experience that’s not to be missed.
